Prepare tooling, edge condition and bend line so that springback and the risk of brittle fracture remain under control.
- Grade and batch are known, and the direction-dependent minimum values for punch radius and die width are determined.
- The bend line is placed transverse to the rolling direction wherever the cutting layout allows.
- Edges are deburred and rounded, cut edges have been machined back, and grinding marks run transverse to the bend line.
- The manufacturer's stamping does not lie on the bend line.
- The tooling has been checked: die edges at least as hard as the plate, lubricated round bars, matching opening angle.
- Springback has been allowed for; a trial bend is planned for a new batch.
- Personnel stand to the side of the machine, and the guard is active.
