Prepare tooling, workholding and cutting data so that the component's protective thickness is not unintentionally altered.
- Cutting data are set per grade; a new grade is approached conservatively.
- The tool matches the situation, for example solid carbide with internal coolant, or indexable insert drills only up to twice the hole depth.
- The overhang length is at most three times the tool diameter, and coolant is active.
- The workpiece is mechanically clamped; a magnetic chuck is not in use.
- A metallic backing plate is in place, and feed is paused before breakthrough.
- No thickness reduction takes place; a nominal thickness is not milled down to a lesser thickness over an area, unless a concession has been obtained beforehand.
- The first milling pass on flame-cut edges goes at least 2 millimetres deep.
- Drilling and threading parameters are set according to the applicable tables.
