Set the cutting process and the cutting layout so that no uncontrolled kerf or cracking risk arises.
- The cutting process is chosen by thickness and grade, with water jet preferred and oxy-fuel cutting used only with a defined preheating regime.
- For oxy-fuel cutting, preheating is to 170 plus/minus 30 degrees Celsius, with an additional four-hour hold planned in the thick range.
- The preheat zone covers the whole plate or a 100-millimetre strip on both sides of the kerf.
- Nesting is planned so that future bend lines lie transverse to the rolling direction.
- A machining allowance of 2 millimetres is planned on every thermally cut edge that will be joined or bent.
- Cut parts are wide enough to absorb the heat, because narrow offcut strips can crack.
- The enquiry specifies the cut quality, not just the cutting process.
- Batch marking is transferred to every part before cutting.
